The needle shut-off nozzle HP offers precise control through a pneumatic or hydraulic needle shut-off mechanism. This enables direct separation of the melt flow at the mold interface, ideal for closing under high pressure. The needle shut-off mechanism opens automatically in case of overpressure to ensure safety. Mainly suitable for thermoplastics such as PA, PPS, POM or PP with low viscosity materials, it can be flexibly adapted to various processes such as the MuCell process and other foaming processes.

  • Shorter cycle times lead to increased productivity
  • Controlled closing at the nozzle tip / tool interface
  • Prevents filament formation and plastic leakage
  • User-friendliness
  • Improved homogenization with increased back pressure
  • Process reliability with sensor technology

Control system

Integrated control

Our solutions for pneumatic and hydraulic applications feature custom-made, double-acting stroke cylinders with high-temperature-resistant seals (up to 180°C). These stroke cylinders are seamlessly integrated into the nozzle assembly, forming a compact unit. Control is carried out precisely via settings directly from the machine control system.

Monitoring with position sensor

Our shut-off nozzles are equipped with advanced position monitoring technology, seamlessly integrating into pneumatic and hydraulic systems. The SHE sensor accurately monitors the piston end positions and transmits the "open" or "closed" status directly to the machine control system. This solution ensures smooth operation with precise position detection, reliable performance even under extreme conditions up to 155°C, and an integrated signal amplifier for direct communication. Existing Herzog shut-off nozzles can be easily retrofitted by replacing the control cylinder and adding a Hall sensor, signal amplifier, and connection cable.

Machine-side control

When integrating our nozzle into an existing machine control system, it is crucial to pay special attention to the assembly of the linkage. This includes both the stroke and alignment of the linkage, as well as the force applied by the linkage to the lever and nozzle mechanism.

Control cylinder supply flexible

Our pneumatic and hydraulic control cylinders inherently rotate slightly around the suspension axis during the stroke motion. If this swivel movement is restricted, premature wear on the piston rod can occur. We recommend our flexible supply system, as it allows unrestricted cylinder movement and is easy to connect to the machine.

Options

Filter

Efficiently keeping sprue openings clear in hot runner systems is critical for consistent and uninterrupted production. By using a melt filter in our shut-off nozzles, the intrusion of foreign particles into the cavity is prevented. This reduces the risk of blockages and increases process reliability.
Our filtration technology helps extend the lifespan of hot runner systems, reduces maintenance intervals, and overall enhances production efficiency.und insgesamt eine höhere Effizienz in der Produktion zu erzielen.

Mixer

The integration of a mixer directly into the shut-off nozzle represents a significant advancement in improving melt quality. The mixer ensures uniform homogenization of the melt in terms of both color and temperature.
This consistent mixing significantly reduces color deviations and temperature variations, minimizing scrap rates and leading to a substantial improvement in the quality of injection-molded parts. The mixer ensures an even distribution of color pigments and a homogeneous melt temperature, contributing to greater precision and consistency of the final products.
The installation of the mixer into the shut-off nozzle is efficient and precise, optimizing the entire injection molding process. This integration not only enhances the quality of the produced parts but also improves overall production efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Gas module

The gas injection at the machine nozzle is conducted through the core of the sprue, ensuring precise and controlled gas input. For use in the Gas Injection Technology (GIT) process, the conventional nozzle component is replaced by a specialized gas module. This gas module is designed to provide a gas-tight seal in the gas supply area, ensuring reliable and safe gas injection.
The robust, maintenance-free gas module offers additional safety with an integrated shut-off mechanism to the screw chamber, preventing unintended gas leakage and enabling stable and controlled process management. This technical design enhances process reliability and improves the quality of manufactured parts.

Accessories

Heater band

The heater band is an essential component of the heating system, crucial for the optimal performance of our shut-off nozzles. The use of high-quality heating bands is indispensable in the processing of technical plastics. Their compact design and strong heating performance simplify handling and enhance process reliability. Downtime and issues caused by insufficient heat supply are significantly reduced, leading to improved production quality and efficiency.

Temperature sensor

High-quality temperature sensors are specifically designed for plastics processing. Their robust construction ensures long service life and precise melt temperature measurements, optimizing heat band control and enhancing process reliability. Premium thermocouples are essential for a stable and efficient control loop within the heating system.
